The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on December 23, 2018.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
ArShawn Parker, Albion
Senior, Guard
Detroit, Mich.
Parker poured in a career-best 38 points in Albion's 83-77 win at Aurora Dec. 19, with 34 points coming in the second half to help the Britons outscore Aurora 55-33 in the second stanza. Parker, who made his final 13 shots of the game, finished the contest shooting 15-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, to go with 4-for-4 from the free throw line while adding three steals and two rebounds. Parker scored 25 consecutive points for Albion in 24 minutes of play.
Francesca Buchanan, Hope
Senior, Forward
Grant, Mich.
Buchanan garnered Oglethorpe Quality Suites Holiday Classic Most Valuable Player honors in leading Hope to a 2-0 record at the four-team event. Against RV Oglethorpe Dec. 20, Buchanan tallied game-highs of 19 points, nine rebounds, and four assists to hand the Stormy Petrels' second loss of the season, a 64-46 win for No. 5 Hope. Buchanan then tallied a game-best 13 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds in Hope's 79-37 win over Birmingham Southern Dec. 21.
