FREELAND, Mich. - In the fall update of the 2019-20 MIAA Commissioner's Cup race, Hope owns the early lead thanks to top-three finishes in all eight fall sports.
The fall update is an unofficial look at MIAA Commissioner's Cup standings. The award is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league's 23 sports, 11 in women' sports, and 12 in men's sports; each school counts its top eight finishes by gender. The fall update includes each team's MIAA finish in four men's and four women's sports.
Along with MIAA Championships in women's cross country and football, Hope was the regular season runner-up in women's golf, volleyball, women's soccer, men's golf, and men's soccer on the way to gathering 64.5 points through eight fall sports; Hope's lowest finish in the standings was a third-place tie in men's cross country.
In the race for second place, Calvin (49 points) leads Trine (48.5 points) thanks to MIAA titles in men's soccer, volleyball, and men's cross country. Trine was the 2019 MIAA champion in men's golf and gathered runner-up finishes in both men's and women's cross country while competing on the Thunder's home course in Angola, Ind.
Both Albion and Alma are tied for fourth through the fall seasons with 38 points, while Adrian is close behind with 36 points to rank sixth. Kalamazoo (33 points), Olivet (27 points) and Saint Mary's (20 points in four women's sports) round out the fall standings.
