FREELAND, Mich. - In the fall update of the 2017-18 MIAA Commissioner's Cup race, Hope owns the early lead thanks to strong showings in their women's sports.
The Flying Dutch finished no worse than second place in all four women's fall sports, capturing team titles in women's soccer and women's cross country. On the men's side, Hope parlayed two second-place finishes for a tie in men's points; the result is an MIAA-best 62 points through the fall season.
Calvin, winners of four MIAA championships in the fall, is second overall in the fall standings. The Knights were victorious in men's soccer, men's cross country, volleyball, and men's golf to total 52 points through the first eight MIAA Championships.
The biggest mover from last season to this year was Trine, bolstered by their MIAA title in football. The Thunder also garnered third-place finished in men's cross country and men's golf to tie Hope for first place in the men's standings; coupled with a third-place finish in women's cross country, Trine ranks third in the early standings with 46.5 points.
Albion (41 points) edged Adrian (40 points) for fourth place, thanks to 20.5 points accumulated in four women's fall seasons.

The award is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league's 22 sports, 11 per gender; each school counts its top eight finishes by gender.
