BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Morgan Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo) recorded a hat trick as the Trine University women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Baldwin Wallace University.
The Thunder took the early lead with a goal from junior Courtney Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) in the 19th minute of the contest. Senior Marisa Robinett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) added an assist on the tally.
The teams would go scoreless through the rest of the half, with Trine entering the intermission with the 1-0 lead.
Sanderson would record her first goal just six minutes into the second half in the 52nd minute of the contest. The goal came following a missed shot on the other end, with goalkeeper Ahdrin Bordner (Delaware, Ohio / Rutherford B. Hayes) adding an assist with the goal kick.
Sanderson would score her second goal in the 67th minute, this time collecting the rebound off of a saved shot and cashing in. Freshman Veronica Ocampo (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) recorded the assist with the first shot on goal.
The team's, and Sanderson's, final goal came just three minutes later this time with an assist from Robinett.
The Thunder turned in a dominating performance offensively in the contest showing up not just in the score column but also in the statistics. The Thunder outshot the opposition 18-6 in the game and placed 12 shots on goal to Baldwin Wallace's two.
Trine improves to 2-1-1 following the victory. They will travel to Anderson (Ind.) University for their next contest. That match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
