Five MIAA Women's Basketball Players Announced All-Region by D3hoops.com

Five women's basketball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were named to All-Region 7 teams by D3hoops.com as announced on Tuesday, March 14.

MIAA student-athletes made up more than half of the All-Region 7 First Team.  The First Team honorees include Calvin University's Gabby Timmer, Hope College's Savannah Feenstra, and Trine University's Sidney Wagner.

Gabby Timmer, a fifth-year center for the Knights, was selected to the First Team after previously earning a spot on the All-Region Second Team in both 2019 and 2022.  She became a five-time All-MIAA honoree after assisting Calvin to a 12-4 conference record (21-6 overall).  Timmer concluded the season as the league's leader with 192 field goals, 192 defensive rebounds, 277 total boards, 10.3 rebounds per game, 63 blocks, and 483 points.  This year, Timmer broke Calvin's record for career rebounds (1,156) and became the second player in program history to score at least 2,000 career points.  She also is one of four players in program history with at least 200 career blocks.

Hope senior forward Savannah Feenstra was announced to the All-Region 7 First Team after leading the Flying Dutch to an overall record of 26-3, including a 14-2 mark in league contests.  Feenstra earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team this season.  She concluded the 2022-23 campaign as the conference leader with 122 free throws and 26.8 points per 40 minutes.

Sidney Wagner, a sophomore guard for the Thunder, was the third MIAA student-athlete that appears on the All-Region First Team.  Wagner was voted the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading Trine to a 14-2 conference record (23-7 overall).  She wrapped up the year as the league leader in steals, totaling 66.  Wagner set a new career-high with 29 points in Trine's 76-64 victory at Hope College on December 17.

Senior forward Claire Baugley of Hope was selected to the All-Region 7 Second Team.  Baguley was voted to the All-MIAA First Team for the first time in her career after her performance this season.  She concluded the 2022-23 season as the conference's leader in both field-goal percentage (.627) and three-point field-goal percentage (.547).

Makayla Ardis, a senior guard at Trine, as announced to the All-Region 7 Third Team.  Ardis earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team for the first time in her career this season.  She concluded the year second in the league behind Baguley with a .447 three-point field-goal percentage.  Ardis scored a career-high 29 points in the second contest versus Hope and is currently ranked ninth in program history with 175 career assists.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences were each contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 798 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.

Players from these lists are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams. The women's team will be released at a predetermined time between the national semifinals on March 18 and the title game on April 1.
