
FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Wednesday (July 25) the list of 1,284 student-athletes from the conference’s nine member institutions recognized to the 2017-18 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Not only is the total of 1,284 a record for the conference, The total marks the third consecutive year the total of honorees surpassed 1,200 student-athletes.
To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year and earn a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport.
For the second consecutive year, Adrian and Albion saw the total of their honored student-athletes increase from the academic year previous; Hope and Olivet also improved on their totals from the 2016-17 academic year.
Hope had the highest total of Academic Honor Roll selections with 250, an increase of 48 from the previous year; Calvin (168), Albion (165), and Trine (157) were second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Of the 1,284 student-athletes recognized, 115 achieved a 4.0 in 2017-18, with 25 of those lettering in more than one sport. Of the total, 225 were multi-sport athletes, including 84 that earned a varsity letter in three sports in 2017-18.
