Around the MIAA

Adrian (5-6, 0-0)

The Adrian College volleyball team competed in the Ginny Kilt Classic in Wooster, Ohio last weekend, going 2-2 in its four games. The Bulldogs swept Franciscan in game one on Friday night before losing a roller coaster of a five-set match against hosts Wooster. Adrian lost in four sets to Bethany (W.V.) on Saturday morning before beating Marietta in five sets in the final match of the invitational for the Bulldogs. Senior Olivia Welch was named to the All-Tournament Team, totaling 39 kills and 55 digs on the weekend.


Albion (6-5, 0-0)

Middle blocker Marie Pregenzer (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) hit .375 (38-5-88), knocked down 11 blocks and served up six aces in three matches last week…MB Taylor Rosenthal (Vicksburg, Mich.) hit .316 (27-3-76) and was credited with seven block assists…Chloe Webber (Marshall, Mich.) completed double-doubles in five-set matches against Washington & Jefferson (10 kills, 13 digs) and Hiram (11 kills, 20 digs) last Saturday.


Alma (10-1, 0-0)

The Alma volleyball team is on a six-match win streak after three more wins over the weekend. Alma (10-1) defeated Augustana 3-0, Webster University 3-1, and Loras College 3-0. Freshman outside hitter Sara Majerle (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) led the Scots with 32 kills in their three matches on a .298 hit percentage. She also had a team-high 49 digs and six aces. Majerle is sixth in the conference in kills per set with 2.96 and is the highest ranked freshman. Senior middle blocker Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) is second in the league in blocks (39) and third in the league in hit percentage (.360).


No. 1 Calvin (10-0, 0-0)

Calvin went 3-0 at the DePauw Tiger Invitational over the weekend, defeating No. 11 Illinois Wesleyan in four sets, host DePauw in four sets and Rose-Hulman in three sets. Senior Anna Kamp was named to the all-tournament team after amassing a Calvin four-set record 28 kills in the win over DePauw. The Knights continue to hold the No. 1 spot in the national poll heading into a week of home matches against the University of Chicago and Hope.


No. 13 Hope (10-1, 0-0)

The 13th-ranked Hope College volleyball team posted a 3-1 record at the Wittenberg University (Ohio) Fall Classic last weekend. The Flying Dutch (10-1 overall) defeated eighth-ranked Ithaca College (N.Y.), Heidelberg College (Ohio) and University of Mary Washington (Virginia) after losing to No. 20 Ohio Northern Friday. Senior outside hitter Katie Rietberg of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) was named to the all-tournament team.


Kalamazoo (2-9, 0-0)

The Kalamazoo College volleyball team opened its home schedule this week with a non-conference match against Saint Mary’s. The Hornets were led by Shelby Suseland and Madi Goodman who finished with 12 and 10 kills respectively in the three-set loss. Kalamazoo then travelled to Hiram College for three matches over the weekend. The Hornets finished the weekend with a 1-2 record.


Olivet (8-5, 0-0)

The Olivet College volleyball team posted a 3-2 record last week. In the middle of the week, the Comets lost a five-set match at Manchester (Ind.). OIivet rebounded with a 3-1 record at Knox (Ill.) College #MarissaStrong Tournament. The Comets lost their first match to Illinois College before sweeping Anderson (Ind.) and Westminster (Mo.) in three sets, and beating the host Prairie Fire in five sets. Gabrielle Mundt was named to the all-tournament team.


Saint Mary's (5-5, 0-0)

The Belles won a 3-0 non-conference match at Kalamazoo on Tuesday before winning the Manchester Invitational over the weekend with a 3-1 record. Nicole Lukens (41 kills, 85 digs, 8 aces) and Morgan VanderWey (142 assists, 20 digs, 19 kills) were both all-tournament team honorees at Manchester.


Trine (7-6, 0-0)

Trine finished the week with a 3-2 record behind victories against Earlham, Hanover and Franklin. Sophomore Madison Munger (Indianapolis / Franklin Central) leads the team with 151 kills so far.
