Calvin's DeVries Named TeamSnap/AVCA National Player of the Year

This week, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) named its honorees for both All-America and the 2018 TeamSnap/AVCA Division III Player of the Year.

Calvin's Sarah DeVries (Jr., MH/S, Grand Rapids, Mich.), a Second Team All-American in 2017, was not only a First Team All-America selection this year but was named the 2018 TeamSnap/AVCA Division III Player of the Year; the top honor was announced at the pre-NCAA Championship banquet Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Pa.

On Nov. 13, the AVCA released their selections to the AVCA Division III All-America teams. Joining DeVries on the First Team was Calvin's Anna Kamp, who was named a First Team All-American for the third time in her career. 

DeVries was named the AVCA Great Lakes Region Player of the Year last week and was tabbed the MIAA's Defensive Player of the Year prior to the MIAA Volleyball Tournament. Earlier in the year, DeVries was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week Sept. 25. Overall, DeVries becomes the sixth different Calvin player to earn National Player of the Year honors over the last eight seasons.

The Knights will participate in the 2018 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Quarterfinals Thursday, Nov. 15 against Aurora at 12:30 p.m. ET.
