Calvin Volleyball Begins National Title Defense Against WashU in NCAA First Round

The #3 Calvin College volleyball team (26-3) will take on #19 Washington-St. Louis Thursday, Nov. 9 in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship. The Knights will challenge WashU at 12:30 p.m. CT at Bloomington, Ill.

The defending NCAA National Champions will start the pursuit of their title defense with the same opponent the Knights knocked off in the 2016 NCAA National Championship match in the Bears. 

Washington-St. Louis (24-9) punched their NCAA ticket with an automatic berth from University Athletic Association after winning the UAA Tournament title. 

Along with AVCA nationally-ranked programs in Calvin and Washington-St. Louis, the Bloomington regional includes four more teams in the coaching organization's top 25: Millikin (8th), Illinois Wesleyan (11th), Chicago (20th), and Carthage (24th). 

The winner of Calvin/Washington-St. Louis will advance to play the winner of Millikin (28-7) and Greenville (26-7) in the second round on Friday, Nov. 10. The regional final will be contested Saturday, Nov. 11, with the winner advancing to the final eight, hosted by Calvin at Van Noord Arena Nov. 16-18.
