LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sarah DeVries, a sophomore middle hitter on the Calvin College women's volleyball team, was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Player of the Week, the national coaches organization announced Tuesday (Sept. 26).
In a 2-0 week against MIAA opponents, Calvin reamained unbeaten in the conference with victories oer Kalamazoo Sept. 19, 3-0, and No. 20 Hope Sept. 23, 3-1. In the road win against Hope, DeVries swung for a career-tying best 16 kills with 12 digs; DeVries just missed a triple-double with a career-high eight blocks in the victory.
DeVries' award is her first national award and the first for a Calvin player since the 2013 season. In all, Calvin has earned eight Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors in program history.
Calvin returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 27 at home against Albion for a 6:30 p.m. match.
