Calvin Continues to Oshkosh; Hope Upset in NCAA Volleyball Regionals

Regional play for MIAA teams in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament concluded Saturday, as Calvin advanced to the National Quarterfinals for the third time in four seasons. The Knights will be the lone team to represent the MIAA at the championship venue, as Hope lost in the first round of NCAA Tournament play Thursday.

UW-Oshkosh's Kolf Sports Center will host the 2016 NCAA final three rounds Nov. 17-19.

Calvin (30-1) defeated Pitt.-Bradford Nov. 10, 3-0, led by a 12-kill night by Laura Danhoff (Sr., MH, Willard, Ohio). The Knights then halted DePauw Nov. 11, 3-0, bolstered by 16 kills from Anna Kamp (So., OH, Orland Park, Ill.). On Saturday, Calvin wrapped up their home-court run with a 3-1 victory over Millikin. The Knights took the first two sets with attack percentages of .486 and .405, respectively, as the team committed just one attack error in each set. Three players finished with double figure kills for Calvin: Danhoff (16), Kamp (15) and 12 by Tessa Van Laare (Jr., OH, Toronto, Ontario). Jenna Lodewyk (Jr., S, Villa Park, Ill.) had 108 assists in 10 sets.

Hope (25-6) was unable to get into the groove in their 3-0 setback to Elmhurst Nov. 10 in the NCAA First Round hosted at UW-Whitewater. Katie Rietberg (So., OH, Holland, Mich.) had a match-high 15 kills in the setback. Alexis Thompson (Sr., L, Monroe, Mich.) finished with 20 digs, while classmate Sarah Feldpausch (Sr., OH, White Cloud, Mich.) added 11 kills.
