Herrmann Wins 3,000m Steeplechase National Title

Hope senior Erin Herrmann ended her track and field career atop the podium May 27 as the National Champion in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Mount Union at SPIRE in Geneva, Ohio.

Herrmann crossed the line in 10:21.08, more than seven seconds faster than her nearest competitor and the ninth-fastest time in NCAA Division III history. Her time is a program record, beating her previous school record by six seconds.

Hermann became the first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association student-athlete to win the 3,000m steeplechase national title. In the MIAA's history, 13 individuals and five relay teams have been NCAA National Champions at the outdoor championships. She is the first MIAA National Champion since 2013.
