• Adrian and Alma shared first-place honors at the Defiance College Invitational Jan. 28, with both teams leadig the nine-team field with 132 points.
For Adrian, Takiyah Smith (Sr., Rochester, Mich.) was the winner in the 60m hurdles (9.58) and the high jump (1.50m) while Rachel Dolphin (Sr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) crossed first in the 200m dash (27.08) while adding a second in the 60m dash (8.10). Natalie Modes (Sr., Livonia, Mich.) had a versatile meet, winning the long jump (5.17m) while finishing fourth in the 200m dash (27.47) and fifth in the 60m dash (8.24).
Alma blew past the competition in the distance medley relay, as Mallory Munderloh (So., St. Louis, Mich.), Shannon Kievit (Jr., Lewiston, Mich.), Blaire Showers (Fr., Ithaca, Mich.) and Kaitlyn Arnold (Sr., Jackson, Mich.) finished with a time of 12:49.02, 48 seconds in front of second place. Erin Goggins (So., Hastings, Mich.) won the pole vault (3.20m), Chelse Van Spronsen (Jr., Jenison, Mich.) took first in the 3000m run (11:00.51), and Hannah Garn (Jr., Charlotte, Mich.) captured the 5000m run in 19:21.30.
• Calvin sent a split squad to the Mike Lints Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State Jan. 28, where Bethany Love (Sr., Kentwood, Mich.) was eighth in the shot put (12.02m).
• Trine had three first-place finishes at the Don and Riley Zimmer Classic Jan. 27. Kara Eck (Jr., Auburn, Ind.) won the weight throw with a mark of 16.79m and added a second-place finish in the shot put (12.76m). Jenna Gales (Fr., Mendon, Mich.) was victorious in the 400m dash (59.67) to move into 21st nationally, while Kelsey Ortiz (Sr., Swanton, Ohio) took first in the 5000m run with a personal best time of 18:57.9. On Saturday, Eck set the Trine record in the weight throw with an effort of 17.58m at the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws Competition to take first overall.
