• After a season-opening setback to Holy Cross College Feb. 2, Alma bounced back with a 6-3 win over Albion Feb. 3. Jessica Penhale (So., Ishpeming, Mich.) was part of a gutsy 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles before adding a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles for the Scots.
• Kalamazoo cruised to a 9-0 win against Baldwin Wallace Feb. 3 in their season-opening contest. The Hornets dropped just seven games in straight-set sweeps in singles, including a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles by Maria Franco (Sr., Quito, Ecuador).
