MIAA Women's Tennis Week #12 Wrap-Up

After a close match to conclude the regular season settled the final seeding, the four-team field for the 2017 MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament is now set for May 4-5. Nationally-ranked Hope is the top seed and will host No. 4 seed Saint Mary's, while Calvin, after defeating Kalamazoo at home April 29 to set the bracket, will again host the Hornets in the other semifinal. Winners will advance to the home site of the highest remaining seed for the championship Friday, May 5.

• Calvin secured the No. 2 seed with two key victories against top MIAA foes. In their 6-3 win at Saint Mary's April 26, Jessica Bouma (Jr., Kalamazoo, Mich.) and Micaela Seazzu (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) were two-time winners, pairing at No. 3 doubles for the lone doubles point for the Knights. Bouma then won 7-6 (6-2), 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, which proved to be the match's decisive point, and Seazzu notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Against Kalamazoo April 29, the Knights captured all three doubles points and then tallied two singles wins to fend off the Hornets. Anna Asfour (Fr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) sealed the win with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

• #21 Hope wrapped up their unbeaten MIAA regular season with a 9-0 home victory over Adrian April 29. No player dropped more than two games in singles play, while the Flying Dutch gave up only one game in doubles action.

• Kalamazoo registered a 9-0 win at Albion April 26, where Maria Franco (Jr., Quito, Ecuador) was part of an 8-3 No. 1 doubles win before cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.

• Saint Mary's split their final week of the regular season, capping with a 9-0 win at Alma April 29. Monica Davy (So., Morris, Ill.) won at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep after an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.

• Trine finished the 2017 season with a 7-2 win at Alma April 26. After sweeping the three doubles points, the Thunder tallied four singles wins, including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Kinnsey Pass (Jr., Lafayette, Ind.) at No. 3 singles; Pass also was part of a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles.
