Hope Women's Tennis Earns 9-0 Home Win Against Trine

The Hope College women's tennis team did its part to set up a first-place showdown in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association later this week.

The 34th-ranked Flying Dutch defeated visiting Trine 9-0 on Tuesday for their 10th consecutive victory.

Hope (14-4 overall) improved to 6-0 in MIAA play, the same record as Kalamazoo. The Flying Dutch host Kalamazoo for a match on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m.

Against Trine, Hope won all six singles matches in two sets.

At No. 1, junior Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS) beat Madison Hatkevich 6-0, 6-3.

At No. 2, senior Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS) defeated Tarah Brennan 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 3, senior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) downed Kinnsey Pass 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 4, junior Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS) topped Kaitlin Black 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 5, sophomore Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS) won 6-0, 6-1 against Sloan Davis.

At No. 6, freshman Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win against Carlee Richardson.

In doubles, Benda and Holaway scored an 8-2 win against Hatkevich and Brennan at the top flight.

At No. 2, LaBarge and Garcia beat Pass and Black 8-0. 

At No. 3, Rahrig and freshman Catherine Wingrove of Okemos, Michigan (Okemos HS) earned an 8-1 win against Davis and Richardson.
