2015 All-MIAA Women’s Tennis Team Announced; Kalamazoo's Woods Wins Third Straight MVP Honor 

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced its 2015 All-MIAA women’s tennis team. 

Kalamazoo junior Sarah Woods, who took a perfect 19-0 record at No. 1 singles and a 19-1 mark at No. 1 doubles into the MIAA tournament, has been named the conference’s Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive year. Woods has a perfect 22-0 singles record against MIAA opponents for her career, and is the fifth women’s tennis player in MIAA history to be named Most Valuable Player three times. Hope’s Anneliese Fox was the last three-time MVP (2004-06). 

Hope junior Anna Garcia was named recipient of the Sue Little Sportsmanship Award, the MIAA’s oldest award for women’s tennis, while Hope senior Carli Capestany was named the winner of the Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete Award.

Player of the Week

Hope's Carli Capestany, a senior from Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS), tied a Hope single-season record for doubles victories, teaming up with Nancy Benda for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Trine. She now has a 24-5 record in doubles this season. Capestany also had a straight-set win at No. 2 singles against Trine, 6-1, 6-3, to improve her singles record for the season to 20-5. Capestany is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and third time in her career.
