Around the MIAA

Albion

First-year swimmer Samantha Swingewood won three events (200 IM, 400 IM and 200 fly) in the Calvin Quad. For her efforts, Swingewood was named MIAA Swimmer of the Week.


Alma

Did not compete. Will return to action Nov. 17 against Calvin.


No. 16 Calvin

Won the Calvin Quad Meet with 916 points. Senior Anna Serino won the 100 freestyle (53.22) and 200 freestyle (1:57.36) while placing second in the 500 freestyle (5:17.74). Sophomore Joselyn Smith took the title on the one-meter board (388.70) Sophomore Hannabeth Magnussen won the three-meter board (413.45). With their performances, Smith and Magnussen both earned NCAA III Regional qualifying scores.


No. 25 Hope

Hope College’s Meg Peel (Spring Lake, Mich.) and Emma Schaefer (DeWitt, Mich.) swam to first-place performances during a five-team meet at Calvin College on Saturday. Peel won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, clocking times of 58.02 seconds and 2 minutes, 5.97 seconds, respectively. Schaefer topped the field in the 100 breaststroke, where she recorded a swim of 1:08.35. On Friday, the Flying Dutch swam past NCAA Division II Davenport University 125-87 in a non-league dual meet. Senior Sara Plohetski (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) took first in 1-meter diving with a score of 222.20 points and 3-meter diving with a total of 203.20 points.


Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team defeated Lincoln College 181-52 and lost to Davenport University 122-110 at East Kentwood High School on Saturday. Nicki Bailey led the Hornets with first-place finishes in the 1-meter (231.45) and 3-meter (226.10) as Kalamazoo took the top three spots in both events. The Hornets had a number of second-place finishers including the 200 Medley Relay (Roberts, Logsdon, Rauhoff, McGinnis) at 1:53.98, the 400 Free Relay (McGinnis, Radermacher, Washington, Trimble) at 3:49.85, Ella Palacios (1000 Freestyle) at 11:46.84, Emily Tenniswood (400 IM) at 4:57.57, Eve Petrie (1M Diving) at 212.55, Steph Rauhoff (100 Fly) at 1:02.22, Molly Roberts (100 Back) at 1:03.40, Mary Trimble (500 Free) at 5:32.54, Madeline Jump (3M Diving) at 196.95 and Molly Logsdon (100 Breast) at 1:10.56. Kalamazoo returns to action Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 at the Calvin Invitational.


Olivet

The Olivet College women's swimming & diving team competed in a triple dual meet at Notre Dame College (Ohio). the Comets defeated Ursuline (Ohio) College, 80.5-65.5, but lost to the host Falcons, 102-72; and Hillsdale College, 129-38. Kayla Eichaker placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.31 and 50-yard freestyle in 26.48 seconds. Delaney Graham had the second-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle at 58.92 seconds. She also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:11.06.
