Around the MIAA

Albion

Rileigh Eding (Hamilton) swam past Calvin College senior Anna Serino in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle in the MIAA Relays, while Alexandra Horman (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Central) and Kaitlind Hooper (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) were the runners up in the butterfly and breaststroke, respectively…Horman swam on the winning relays and she added a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly as Albion defeated Kalamazoo last Saturday. Hannah Erickson (Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm) joined Horman on the 400 medley relay and she won the 100 and 200 freestyle events in the dual meet at Kalamazoo.


Alma

The Alma College swim and dive team participated in the annual MIAA Relays on Friday (Oct. 26) night at the Holland Aquatic Center. In the women's 50-yard breaststroke race, freshman Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich./Northville) took tenth place with a time of 33.39. Senior Kate Lehman (Haslett, Mich./Haslett) finished 12th in the finals of the 50-yard butterfly, swimming the race in 28.57.

No. 25 Hope

Two Hope College swimmers won three-race knockout rounds - all swam in succession - during the season-opening Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays at Holland Community Aquatic Center on Friday. Sophomore Meg Peel (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) won the women’s 50-yard backstroke with a championship-round time of 28.66 seconds. She also recorded the best efforts in the semifinals and quarterfinals. Freshman Allie Eppinga (Saline, Mich./Saline) was runner-up to Peel with a time of 30.32 in the last race. In the women’s 50 breaststroke, sophomore Emma Schaefer (DeWitt, Mich./St. Johns) topped Albion’s Kaitlind Hooper in the finals by recording a swim of 32.32. The Flying Dutch also were runner-up in the 1,500 freestyle relay and the 400 individual medley relay.


Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team lost 181-113 to Albion on Saturday. Molly Logsdon won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.33) and 200 breaststroke (2:36.97) events. Olivia Anderson took first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.29. Madeline Jump won the 1M diving event (210.35) while Nicki Bailey won the 3M diving event (230.85). The Hornets took the top three spots in both events. Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 3 at East Kentwood High School against Davenport and Lincoln.
