Albion
Katie Ferrero won the distance freestyle events and Anna Moore was part of first-place swims in three events as Albion College earned a 119-86 victory over Division II Hillsdale College in a women's swimming and diving dual meet. The teams were separated by just a few points at the break in the meet, but Albion gained some separation when Samantha Swingewood and Alexandra Horman were the top two finishers in the 200-yard butterfly and Hannah Erickson and Allison Dasky were the top two finishers in the 100 freestyle. Moore followed by winning the 200 backstroke and Ferrero did likewise in the 500 freestyle. Albion started fast, with first place finishes in the 200 medley relay (Emily Merucci, Katy Henning, Tia Ulieme and Nicole McCann) and 1,000 freestyle (Ferrero). Albion finished the meet with a first place finish in the200 freestyle relay (Allison Dasky, Ulieme, Moore and Erickson).

No. 16 Calvin
Calvin opened the season with a triangular with Division II Grand Valley State and Hillsdale. The Knights defeated Hillsdale 159.5-71.5 and fell to Grand Valley State 161-78. Ranked 16th nationally, Calvin had several notable performances. Sophomore Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) won the 100 backstroke in a time of 59.31 while also placing third in the 200 IM (2:14.61). Chao's time in the 100 backstroke is ranked sixth in Division III. Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team of junior Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS), junior Anna Kutschke (Manistee, Mich./Manistee HS), senior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) and senior Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan HS) also took first place in a time of 1:39.82. Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Chao, freshman Samantha Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), Jenna Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Gunderson took second in 1:49.65. Serino was second in the 200 freestyle (1:55.25) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:21.13). Serino's time in the 200 freestyle is ranked third nationally.
No. 25 Hope
Will begin the 2018-19 competition season Oct. 26 when the Flying Dutch host the MIAA Relays.
Kalamazoo
The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team lost its season opener 127.5-68.5 to Saginaw Valley State University of NCAA Division II. Molly Roberts won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:17.79 while Nicki Bailey won the 1-meter dive (237.95) and the 3-meter dive (236.55). Kalamazoo returns to action next Friday, Oct. 26 at the MIAA Relays hosted by Hope before hosting Albion on Saturday, Oct. 27.
