The 2016-17 MIAA women's swimming and diving regular season got underway last week, and here are some notable performances:
• All six teams participated in the season-opening 2016 MIAA Relays Oct. 21 at Hope; the teams competed in relay events, and no team scores were kept. Calvin touched first in four of the eight relays, including the 200 free relay. Calvin's Abby Van Harn (Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) was a part of three winning relay teams in the 200 free, 500 free, and 200 medley relays. Hope and Kalamazoo each won two events; Hope's Molly Meyer (Sr., South Bend, Ind.) and Chloe Palajac (Jr., Dearborn, Mich.) did the back-to-back double, teamming in both the 1500 free and 400 medley relays for victories.
• Calvin then hosted a three-team event Oct. 22, as the Knights defeated Hillsdale 176-114 but lost to Division II Grand Valley State 211.5-85.5. Van Harn continued her strong effort to start the season, winning the 50 free and 100 free.
