ALMA, Mich. - Meghan Gorsuch, who has served as an assistant coach for the Alma College women's soccer team for the past five seasons, has been elevated to the position of head women's soccer coach, it was announced Wednesday, Jan. 17, by Steven Rackley, director of athletics.

"Meghan has served Alma well over the past five years in a variety of roles and has been very loyal to the school, especially in times of transition," Rackley said. "She has grown with her experience underneath three distinctly different head coaches and I know that she will work hard to establish a quality culture within our women's soccer program."

Gorsuch becomes the eighth head coach in the history of the program, which dates back to 1989. 

"I would like to extend my endless gratitude to Dr. (Jeff) Abernathy, Steven Rackley, Sarah Dehring, the selection committee, and to everyone that was involved in my hiring process for showcasing their support and confidence by giving me the opportunity," Gorsuch said. "We rise by lifting others, and I am so very excited and humbled to become the next head coach of the women's soccer program. I could not be more appreciative of my time at Alma College that will continue in a new, yet familiar, light moving forward."

Gorsuch, who has also been as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the athletics department for the past two seasons, joined the staff before the 2013 campaign, serving under Jeff Hosler, the most successful coach in program history. She also had stints as interim head coach following Hosler's departure in 2014 and after Matt Saul resigned following the 2015 campaign. 

With Gorsuch on the staff, the Scots have made three appearances in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer Tournament, including a trip to the championship game in 2016. 

Her coaching career includes stops at Olivet College as an assistant coach in 2012 as well as Williamston (Mich.) High School, where she was an assistant for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Gorsuch was also the director of the Technical and Speed & Agility Camp in Williamston in 2012 and spent two seasons as a coach with the TNT Soccer Club in Lansing, Mich. 

Gorsuch played four years of high school soccer at Forest Hills Central High School where she earned all-state honors three times and led her team to three MHSAA state titles during the 2005, 2007 and 2008 campaigns. She also garnered a Michigan Merit Award as a senior and achieved academic honors all four years of her prep career. The 2005 championship team was recently inducted into the Forest Hills Central High School Hall of Fame. In addition, she was a member of the Michigan Hawks club team, which won a pair of state championships in 2007 and 2008.  

Collegiately, Gorsuch played on the Michigan State University club soccer team and served as the team captain and president. In 2012, the team won the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Championship and Gorsuch was named as a first-round pick to the All-Tournament team. The squad was also regional champions from 2009-2012.

Following graduation from Michigan State, Gorsuch gained an array of semi-professional playing experience. She played on Michigan's first women's semi professional team, the Motor City Football Club (MCFC), in the summer of 2014, and landed a spot on Lansing's first semi-pro team, the Michigan Chill, the summer of 2016. The Chill won the conference title and made it to the regional semifinal in its inaugural year.

Gorsuch earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from Michigan State University in 2013.
