MIAA Soccer Programs Recognized for Ethics and Sportsmanship by NSCAA

FREELAND, Mich. – Two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association soccer programs were honored Thursday (Dec. 22) as recipients of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for the 2016 season. The award recognizes fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game.

The Alma women's soccer team earned the Gold level award, as the Scots went the 2016 campaign with just two yellow cards and no red cards over the span of 20 games.

The Calvin men's soccer team received the Silver level award. During their 26-game season, which culminated in the Division III National Championship game, Calvin received just five yellow cards as a team and no red cards. Of note, the Knights were one of just two men's programs nationally to receive recognition in 2016.
