Alma

Alma had a busy week at home with a dual against No. 15 Olivet College on Thursday (Jan. 17) and the Alma Open on Saturday (Jan. 19). The Scots fell to the Comets, 19-18, in a match that could have gone either way in the final moments. Both teams won five matches each but Olivet earned more bonus points. Freshman Jacob Ransom (Traverse City, Mich.) was looking for a pin in the final bout of the night that would have given Alma the win, but the match ended just before he was about to be awarded it. Seven Scots placed in the Alma Open where no team scores were recorded.

No. 15 Olivet

Olivet edged Alma, 19-18, to secure a share of the 2019 MIAA title. The Comets and Scots split the 10 bouts. Each team won a major decision and three minor decisions. The fifth win was a pin for the Comets compared to a technical fall for the Scots. Senior Tyler Grimsley had the pin for Olivet at 165 pounds. Other wins for the Comets were Reese Wallis (5-2 at 133 pounds), Cole Hersch (5-1 at 157 pounds), Haydn Kinjorski (14-3 at 174 pounds) and Jacob Harvey (5-3 OT at 197 pounds).

Trine

Trine fell in MIAA dual match against Adrian, 35-9. Despite the loss, three wrestlers won individuals matches in Chase Gibson, Caleb Maddox and Nick Miller. Trine’s weekend matches were cancelled due to weather.
