Around the MIAA

Adrian

Sophomore Devon Pingel is the first-ever Bulldog to earn MIAA Wrestler of the Week...he captured the North Central College Invitational 184-pound championship with a 4-0 tournament record, including a pair of pins, and 24 team points…the Bulldogs were fifth in the 14-team field with 65 points… besides Pingel, other Bulldogs to place were senior Dominic Paterra (4th, 141, 3-1 record), junior Zach Reynolds (6th, 197, 4-2 record), and sophomore Judah Caballero and freshman Collin Lewis both placed eighth at 125 and 285, respectively; Adrian will have fall semester final exams this week and break for the holidays before resuming its schedule in January…The Bulldogs' first event in the new calendar year will be Sunday, Jan. 6 at Lakeland College.


Alma

Alma traveled to Illinois Saturday (Dec. 8) for North Central College's annual event. Junior Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) earned first place for the first time this season by going 4-0 on the day. The All-American is now on a 12-bout winning streak and has a current record of 13-1. Sophomore Austin Wieczorek (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) also placed taking sixth in the 125 lb class. Four nationally ranked teams participated in the tournament including No. 5 Wabash College (Ind.) who the Scots finished ahead of in the team standings.


No. 17 Olivet

Led by Drew Mandell's championship in the 149-pound bracket, the Olivet College wrestling team finished in second-place at the 55th Annual North Central College Invitational. Mandell posted a 4-0 record, including the fastest pin in school history in the 149-pound bracket at 15 seconds. Cole Hersch had a 3-1 record to finish second at 157 pounds. Trevor Piggott was the runner-up at 285 pounds.


Trine

Trine finished 12th at the North Central Invitational. Luke Carver finished third at 184 pounds with a 3-1 record.
