Around the MIAA

Adrian

Adrian opened its dual season over the weekend, defeating Manchester on the road, 41-10, on Friday and then going 2-1 at Olivet College the following day…the Bulldogs’ 3-1 start is a modern-day school record…in Olivet, the Bulldogs followed a 27-16 loss to Ozarks (Ark.) with wins against Henry Ford College, 48-6, and Mount St. Joseph, 32-20…sophomore Devon Pingel led the way with a 4-0 record—all by pinfall…for his match against HFC, he went up in weight class from 184 to 285 and defeated his opponent in 3 minutes and 19 seconds…junior Dylan Steward also went 4-0 at 157 pounds, including three pins…sophomore Michael Jacobs (165) won three matches at the Olivet Duals…in back-to-back wins over Manchester and Henry Ford, the Bulldogs set a modern-day school record for points…against HFC, Adrian reset its benchmark for margin of victory at 42 points…Adrian is idle until Thursday, Nov. 29, at NAIA-scholarship Lourdes University.


Alma

Alma traveled to Olivet College to face Cornell College (Iowa), University of the Ozarks (Ark.) and No. 14 Millikin University (Ill.). The Scots won, 24-23, over Ozarks while falling, 24-20, to Cornell and, 25-13, to the Big Blue. Junior Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) won in all three duals for the Scots. Freshmen Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) and Dylan Seaton (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron Northern) had multiple victories. Sophomore Chase Beecher (Clio, Mich./Clio) went undefeated with his one win against Cornell.


Olivet

Senior Tyler Grimsley posted a 4-0 record at 165 pounds to lead the Olivet College wrestling team to four wins today at the 2018 Comet Duals inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets, ranked No. 18 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 poll, defeated Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University, 31-12; Cornell (Iowa) College, 33-3; Manchester (Ind.) University, 38-10; and No. 15 Millikin (Ill.) University, 23-15.


Trine

The Trine University wrestling team had an impressive day on the mat, winning all three of its matches as part of the Thunder Duals held at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. The Thunder posted convincing wins against all three opponents that included a 48-9 win against Ancilla College, a 36-17 victory against MacMurray (Ill.) College and a 39-18 win against Thomas More (Ky.) College.
