MIAA Women's Lacrosse Week #10 Wrap-Up

Albion emerged from a three-way tie for the fourth and final spot in the 2017 MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament set for Wednesday, May 3, and Saturday, May 6. The Brits will travel to top-seeded Calvin for a 4 p.m. contest Wednesday, while No. 2 seed Saint Mary's will host Hope in the second semifinal. The two winners will then advance to the highest remaining seed site for the championship contest May 6.

• Albion missed capturing the No. 4 seed outright with a slim 13-12 setbnack at Hope April 25, but responded with a 29-2 win at Olivet April 28 in the regular season finale. Cait Gaitley (Jr., A, Grosse Pointe, Mich.) slammed home eight goals to go with two assists while gathering six ground balls.

• Calvin rolled to the regular season title with a 2-0 week, winning at Adrian April 25, 16-5, and finishing with a 19-6 victory at Trine April 29. Against Trine, Emily Cefaratti (Sr., A, Hinsdale, Ill.) was the team leader in both goals (7) and ground balls (5) while causing four turnovers. Kelly Pepper (So., M/A, Wyckoff, N.J.) was the driving force for the Knights offensively against Adrian, notching five goals and three assists.

• A pair of home wins bookended Hope's final week of regular season action, winning over Albion April 25, 13-12, and Alma April 29, 12-2. In the win over Albion, Alexandra Webb (Sr., M, Woodland Hills, Calif.) scored a man-down goal with 41 seconds left in regulation for the game's decisive goal; it was her fourth goal of the contest. Against Alma Saturday, the defense stymied the Scots, as Alexandria Watts (Sr., G, Union, Mich.) made eight saves on 10 shots on goal. Audrey Park (Sr., D, Ann Arbor, Mich.) also racked up the defensive statistics with six caused turnovers and five ground balls.

• Kalamazoo did what they could to try and advance into the MIAA tournament, going 2-0 on the week to finish the year with a 4-4 MIAA record. In their 15-9 win over Alma April 25, Amanda Moss (So., M, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) had an all-around game with eight goals, one assist, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls. The Hornets then wrapped the season with a 12-7 win over Adrian April 27, with Hannah Meyers (So., M, Kalamazoo, Mich.) leading the offense with a three-goal effort.

• Saint Mary's powered into the No. 2 seed with a 2-0 week, starting with their 13-11 win against Hope April 27. Mary Singler (Fr., M, Louisville, Ky.) had a four-goal, two-assist contest, while Clare Theisen (Jr., M, Downers Grove, Ill.) was a stalwart on defense with 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. The Belles then extended tiehr winning streak to five with a 19-15 at Adrian April 29. Singler again led the offense with a five-goal performance, adding six ground balls.
