Around the MIAA
Adrian (5-7, 1-3)
Visiting UW-River Falls shot 53.3 percent from the field while holding Adrian to a 38.5 clip, and built a huge 50-19 first-half lead, on the way to an 84-61 non-conference win for the Falcons in women's basketball action on Saturday to wrap up the 2018 calendar year. Junior Alivia Kondrath led Adrian with 14 points, including 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Albion (10-2, 3-1)
Alma (6-7, 1-3)
The Alma College women's basketball team lost, 70-35, to the Aquinas College Saints Saturday (Dec. 29). The Scots fall to under .500 on the season with an overall record of 6-7. Madeline Barnauskas led the team with 14 points; the senior leads the Scots this season averaging just under 10 points per game.
Calvin (7-5, 2-1)
Calvin will head back into conference play on Wednesday when it travels to Adrian for a 7:30 p.m. contest. The Knights are 7-5 overall after defeating the University of Northwestern of Ohio 87-63 in non-conference action on December 28. In the victory, senior Rachel Warners poured in 29 points to go with 13 rebounds as she notched her first collegiate double-double. Her point and rebound totals were both career-highs. Freshman Stephanie Coors dropped in 13 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists. Freshman Gabby Timmer had 11 points and 12 rebounds to notch her fifth double-double of the season. Senior Becca Richards had 12 points including a pair of triples. Freshman point guard Abbie Cooley had a strong floor game with five points, five rebounds and four assists while turning the ball over just twice. Freshman Maddie Vander Zwaag had nine points and four assists and connected on a three-point basket. Vander Zwaag was one of five freshmen in the starting lineup. Also starting in the game were Cooley, Coors, Baylee GalanBrowne and Timmer. It marked the first time that Calvin has opened a game with five freshmen in the starting lineup.

Kalamazoo (0-11, 0-3)
The Hornets lost a pair of games last week at the Wittenberg Tournament, 82-47 to Heidelberg and 87-53 to Dubuque. Kaytlyn Tidey led the Hornets with 14 points against Heidelberg while Georgie Andrews scored nine points with 10 rebounds. Amanda Moss scored a career-high 19 points against Dubuque while Kaytlyn Tidey and Eliza McCall added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kalamazoo hosts Alma on Wednesday, Jan. 2 followed by Hope on Saturday, Jan. 5.
Olivet (5-7, 1-3)
The Comets dropped an 85-53 contest to UM-Dearborn Dec. 27, despite an 11-point, five-rebound, and four-assist effort by Shawnee Dame; all were team highs in the loss.
Saint Mary's (5-8, 2-2)
A tough-shooting start for the Belles proved to be too much to overcome as the Saint Mary's basketball team lost a 70-49 contest at Webster in their lone game of the week. Giavanna Paradiso led all players with 21 points and had a team-high six rebounds. Megan Saunders and Caroline Macius each added seven points, and Erin Maloney chipped in five points.
No. 11/11 Trine (10-2, 3-0)
The Thunder saw their eight-game winning streak halted by Transylvania Dec. 29; Brandi Dawson led Trine with 12 points.
