MIAA Women's Basketball Final set with Trine, Calvin

ANGOLA, Ind. - The first-ever MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament at Trine University did not disappoint in its first night of action, as Calvin and the host Thunder advanced to Saturday's 7:30 p.m. title tilt:

Calvin 67, Hope 65 | PDF box score

The Knights overcame a 10-point deficit to start the game and trailed by as much as 12 in the first half before rallying for a thrilling 67-65 win over nationally-ranked Hope Friday evening. Calvin (21-4) was led by Anna Timmer, who had team-highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Bre Luurtsema added a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards. Hope (22-3) trailed by two after Luurtsema's free throw with five seconds to play, but Francesca Buchanan's three-point try as time expired missed the mark. Buchanan led Hope with 23 points in the loss.

Trine 57, Albion 42 | PDF box score

Trine held off a fourth-quarter rally by Albion with a 13-2 run to end the game in the Thunder's 57-42 semifinal win. Trine (23-2) held the Brits to just 1-of-14 shooting in the first quarter; the Thunder were lifted by Hayley Martin and her game-high 18 points, while Brandi Dawson also reached double figures with 12 points to go with seven rebounds. The Thunder, ranked #18 nationally, extended their winning streak to nine games. Albion (18-8) was led by Oreyana Curry's 14 points in her final collegiate game.
