Kalamazoo's Smith Selected to Prestigious WBCA Good Works Team

INDIANAPOLIS – Grace Smith, a senior guard on the Kalamazoo women's basketball team, was among 10 women's basketball players honored nationally Tuesday (Feb. 7) to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2017 Good Works Teams, as sponsored by Allstate.

Smith, who also participated on the Kalamazoo women's soccer team, has been a leader not only on campus as the president of the Kalamazoo College Athletic Leadership Council, but in the community by volunteering with Special Olympics, various Kalamazoo elementary schools, the Western Michigan University Center for Disability Services, and the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.

“The WBCA is proud of the 10 young women and 10 young men selected to this year’s Allstate Good Works Teams from the 278 student-athletes who were nominated for the honor,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle M. Donehew. “We are inspired by their commitment and dedication to serving others. And we are most grateful to Allstate for sponsoring this wonderful program through which we all can recognize our young leaders and celebrate their lasting contributions of love, kindness, and hope.”

This is the fifth year of the porgram, in coordination with the WBCA, Allstate and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
