Britons Rally For Victory

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Albion College went on a 15-2 run over the final five minutes to score a 61-56 victory over Dominician University in non-league women's basketball action Tuesday night.

Albion scored nine of its final 15 points from the free throw line. Darian Payne produced a pair of baskets in the closing moments and Oreyana Curry tacked on a layup.

Shooting 53 percent from the field, Albion forged a 22-10 lead after the first quarter.

Albion's shooting percentage dropped to 32.3 for the game as the early lead evaporated. Jasmyn Hardin, Claudia Denigris and Allie Tapanes scored during a 6-0 run as Dominican surged to a 40-37 lead midway through the third quarter. The Stars extended the margin to eight, 54-46, when Angela Evola scored with 5:10 left in the fourth quarter.

Albion made three of its final four shots from the field and went 9-of-14 from the free throw line in the closing stretch.

First-year guard Jay Bard produced a career-high 14 points off the bench to lead Albion. Erin Nelson, who was in double figures early in the third quarter, finished with 13 points. Darian Payne completed her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Tapanes and Hardin combined for 41 points for Dominican.

Next up for Albion is a Nov. 30 home date against Rochester College.
