Week #9 Wrap for April 9-15
• Adrian gathered two MIAA doubleheader sweeps last week, taking two from Kalamazoo April 11 and Albion April 13. A seven-run fifth boosted the Bulldogs past Kalamazoo in game one, 10-2 in five innings; in the win, Adrian had 11 hits, all singles. Adrian held Albion to two hits in a 2-0 game-one shutout at Albion, with Rebecca Neal (Sr., Waterford, Mich.) going the distance with five strikeouts.
• #24 Hope was able to start MIAA play with two doubleheader sweeps, shutting out Albion twice April 10 before taking two from Olivet April 11. For the week, Hayley Reitsma (Sr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) batted .750 with a 2.250 slugging percentage.
• After dropping two to nationally-ranked Hope, Olivet rebounded with a doubleheader sweep over Alma April 13, including a 5-3 win in eight innings in the nightcap. Gracie Boyle (So., Richland, Mich.) threw both complete games for the Comets.
• #25 Saint Mary's celebrated their first-ever national ranking with a 6-0 week, including wins over nationally-ranked Calvin April 9 and No. 8 Trine April 13. In improving to 10-0 against MIAA foes, the Belles were led offensively by Jamie Young (Sr., South Bend, Ind.) who batted .636 (14-for-22) with a 1.045 slugging percentage.
• #8 Trine ran their winning streak to six games with two wins at Albion April 11 before their losses against nationally-ranked Saint Mary's. Against the Britons, The Thunder amassed 28 hits, including 11 for extra bases.
• Earning MIAA Athlete of the Week honors for April 16 were:
- Pitcher: Morgan Raymer, Saint Mary's
- Position: Hayley Reitsma, Hope
• In the April 11 release of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches Poll, four MIAA teams were ranked in the Top 25 of the nation for the first time since the 1995 season: No. 8 Trine, No. 18 Calvin, No. 24 Hope, and No. 25 Saint Mary's.
