Hope's Jones Named NFCA National Pitcher of the Week

On Wednesday (March 28), Hope College’s Sydney Jones (Sr., South Lyon, Mich.) captured this week’s Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Pitcher of the Week honors. It is the first national weekly honor for an MIAA softball player this season.

Senior right-hander Jones tossed the 10th no-hitter in school history in a 2-0 win over Plymouth State, allowing just two baserunners — one on a fielding error and the other on a dropped third strike — walking none and fanning 13. For the week, the South Lyon, Mich., product collected three wins, two shutouts, a save and 35 strikeouts in four appearances, allowing just one earned run in 24 innings of work.

Jones also garnered MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday (March 26).

Hope, now ranked 23rd in the latest NFCA Top 25 poll, joins No. 6 Trine in the national poll.
