Fourteen softball players from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association teams gathered All-Central Region accolades from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) May 16, including seven selections on the 15-player First Team.
Two teams - Saint Mary's and Trine - had two first-team selections in Jamie Young and Cassie Young for the Belles and Kaylee Fox and Erica Robles for the Thunder. Other Central Region First Team selections included Alma's Mary Brooks, Calvin's Anna Gernant, and Hope's Hayley Reitsma; all seven are eligible for All-America honors from the NFCA.
Five players representing four MIAA teams gathered Second Team All-Region honors: Saint Mary's Makenzie Duncan and Morgan Raymer; Hope's Sydney Jones; Calvin's Jessica Brasser; and Trine's Makenna Hartline. Calvin's Maddie DeGroot and Alma's Cassidy Tucker were Third-Team All-Region selections.
Saint Mary's was one of just 22 schools nationally to have four or more All-Region honorees.
As a conference, the MIAA sent four teams to the NCAA Division III Softball Championships in 2018; Hope remains in the tournament and will face Case Western Reserve in Super Regional action May 18-19.
