Two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball standouts garnered academic awards May 10, as Hope's Hayley Reitsma and Saint Mary's Makenzie Duncan both were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) NCAA Division III Academic All-District teams.

Reitsma heads into NCAA Super Regional play with a .406 batting average in 43 games played as Hope's catcher. She has 13 home runs and 48 runs scored to go with 43 RBI in 2018. Academically, Reitsma owns a 3.90 grade point average in biology.

Duncan, an Academic All-District selection last spring, owns a 4.00 grade point average as an integrative biology major and chemistry minor and is one of Saint Mary's College's 2018 valedictorians. A two-time All-MIAA performer on the field, she is the school record holder for triples in a season, triples in a career, and RBI in a career. Duncan has had no fewer than 40 hits in each of her four seasons on the softball team for the Belles. 

The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.

The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams.
