Trine Softball Advances to Super Regionals; Hope, Alma End Seasons

Trine advanced to their second consecutive Super Regional with three wins in the UW-Whitewater Regional last weekend, pitting the Thunder against UW-Oshkosh in a best-of-three series for the chance to participate in the 2017 NCAA Division III Softball Championships in Oklahoma City.

The Thunder tallied a 12-1 5-inning win over Greenville in their tournament opener, and followed up with a 6-3 victory over the host Warhawks May 12. Trine then defeated MIAA foe Hope in the final elimination game, 6-3.

Hope tallied two wins in the consolation bracket of the UW-Whitewater Regional, coming back to eliminate Greenville and UW-Whitewater before falling to Trine.

Alma went 2-2 in their own regional, dropping two games to Illinois Wesleyan to fall out of postseason play. The Scots started with a 9-1, 5-inning win over DePauw and eliminated Otterbein before losing in the championship game.
