Alma advances to title game after day one of MIAA Tournament

After day one of the 2017 MIAA Softball Tournament, Alma moved into the title game with wins over Saint Mary's and Trine; the Scots await the winner of those two teams for the championship game Friday at 2 p.m.

Alma 5, Saint Mary's 1

Alma defeated Saint Mary's in the day's first contest, as Morgan Stratton held the Belles to three hits in Alma's 5-1 win. Chelsea Schweiger went 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

Trine 5, Hope 3

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Hope tied up the game on an RBI single from Katie Singer; but Trine responded with a two-run seventh, which included a solo home run by Makenna Hartline. 

Saint Mary's 7, Hope 1

Saint Mary's stayed alive by eliminating the host Flying Dutch, bolstered by a four-run fifth inning. Leadoff batter Jamie Young went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored while Makenzie Duncan rattled in four RBI, including three on a triple in the third inning.

Alma 5, Trine 2

Alma moved into the championship game by holding Trine to three hits while scoring runs in the second, third, fifth, and seventh innings. Stratton struck out nine for the win, and Anna Couture made good on two walks to score three runs for the Scots.
