Alma Defeats Trine to Win MIAA Softball Title

Alma went 3-0 during the 2017 MIAA Softball Tournament to capture the title Friday and earn the MIAA's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

The 2017 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament selection show will be aired on ncaa.com Monday, May 8 at 1 p.m.

Trine 8, Saint Mary's 1

In Friday's consolation final, Trine tallied eight unanswered runs, including a five-run fifth inning, to advance to the championship game. Danielle Ray scattered six hits in the complete game win while striking out two; Carly Bachna went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Alma 10, Trine 2 (6 innings)

Alma (27-8) took a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to back-to-back home runs from McKenzie Creed and Danielle Service to set the tone offensively, while Scots pitcher Morgan Stratton struck out eight in six innings to keep Trine in check in Alma's 10-2 six-inning win in the championship game. It was the fourth win for Alma over Trine (32-8) this season.

The Scots tagged 13 hits in the finale, with Anna Couture and Creed each finishing with three hits; Creed also added four RBI and two runs.
