Albion, Mich. – With an unseasonably warm October morning providing the setting, the 2016 MIAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championship featured strong team and individual efforts on the rolling hills of Tomac Woods Golf Course Oct. 29.

Calvin's men's team captured the team title, scoring 27 points to edge second-place Albion's 53 points to take win Saturday's race. Coupled with their win during the midseason MIAA Jamboree, Calvin emerged with the team title over the eight-team field.

#12 Calvin finished 1-2, as Jordan Kramer (25:38.4) and Andrew Philipose (25:39.5) crossed the finish line just one second apart. All five of Calvin's scorers were in the top 10 on the way to their 27-point effort. Philipose out-kicked Albion's Andrew Bill late after Kramer and Bill were shoulder-to-shoulder during key points of the race. Bill finished third with a time of 25:50.5.

For the women, #17 Hope was paced by Erin Herrmann's victory as their top five all crossed the line in the race's first 10 runners. The Dutch's first-place team finish Saturday gave Hope the season points edge over Calvin, as the #9 Knights won the mid-season MIAA Jamboree.

Herrmann, who finished in 21:37.9, kicked past Alma's Kaitlyn Arnold, who finished second in 21:57.2. Calvin's Lauren Strohbehn was close behind, capturing third place in 22:09.4. The women's trio slowly pulled away and stayed close late until Herrmann kicked hard over the final kilometer.

Calvin's title was their 30th consecutive MIAA championship, while Hope's victory was the eighth in program history.

At the conclusion of Saturday's race, All-MIAA performers were recognized for their efforts both during the Jamboree and MIAA Championship.

Next up is the 2016 NCAA Regional Saturday, Nov. 12, with the 2016 NCAA Championship slated for Saturday, Nov. 19.
