The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Ben deWaal Malefyt its men's Field Athletes of the Week in track and field for meets through April 26.
Malefyt, a senior from Haledon, N.J. (Eastern Christian HS), had a career-best performance in the discus with a toss of 166 feet, 8 inches to place second at Aquinas' Ernie Mousseau Invitational. His toss puts him eighth among Division III athletes in the discus this season. Malefyt is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career.
