Adrian will begin the indoor track and field season Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Trine Invitational.
#35 Albion
Alma
The track and field team finished in first place at the Jack Skoog Open, hosted by Central Michigan University, on Friday (Jan. 11), as the Scots held off Olivet by 14 points. Sophomore Timothy Minier (Battle Creek, Mich.) won both the men's 60 and 200-meter dash races. In the field events, junior Payton Hirschenberger (Freeland, Mich.) took second place in the long jump and triple jump.
Calvin
The Calvin men's track and field team took third place in the Jack Skoog Open on Friday evening with 79 points. The Calvin men dominated the 3000 meter run claiming the top eight spots. Leading the pack was Sophomore Justin Varineau who crossed the line with a time of 8:44.10. Coming in second was junior Caleb Ferguson with an 8:50.50 followed by sophomore Jonathon Ellis with an 8:52.11. Claiming the top spot in the mile was junior Tyler Johnson with a time of 4.26.11 finishing nine seconds ahead of second place Alma's Justin Jones. A duo of Calvin seniors claimed the top two spots in the 800 meters. Finishing in first was James Jeninga with a 1:57.44 followed by Luke Peterson with a 2:01.61. Juniors Jordan Jorritsma and Jayvin Wolfe claimed the second and third place spots in the men's shot put. Jorritsma threw a 13.44m and Wolfe recorded a 12.48m. Winning the weight throw was sophomore Bryce Reynolds with a heave of 14.79m. Calvin returns to action next Saturday as the Knights compete in the GVSU Mike Lints Invitational.
Hope
Did not compete. Hope will start 2019 at the Mike Lints Open Saturday, Jan. 19.
Olivet
The Olivet College men's track and field team opened its season at the Jack Skoog Open, hosted by Central Michigan University. The Comets had three individuals break school records -- Junior Noah Bailey in the triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, 2-1/4 inches, Sophomore Zane Paksi in the pole vault bar at 13 feet, 11-1/4 inches, and sophomore Jacob Smith in the shot put with a mark of 47 feet, 3/4 inches.Freshman Kyle McDowell's time in the 600-meter run, 1:25.21, ranks first among MIAA competitors this winter.
#30 Trine
Finished second at the Trine Sean Brady/Keith Turner Alumni Open Meet. Three athletes won events in Jonathan Phillips (3000-meter run), Jasper Bassett (800-meter run) and Alex Amaro (5000-meter run).
