Around the MIAA
Adrian
The Adrian College men’s tennis team competed in the Hope Invitational last weekend and had its first home dual on Monday against Grace College. The duo of Cameron Rafinski and Charles Mora went 3-1 on the weekend, while the pairing of Nathan Waterbury and Tanner Wilcox went 2-2. Waterbury and Wilcox also earned the only victory for the Bulldogs in their dual, winning the one doubles match in the 8-1 loss.
Albion
Albion College served up the start of the tennis season with an invitational hosted by Hope College. First-year student-athletes Carter Moore and Patrick Smoker scored an 8-6 victory over Cornerstone in doubles.
Alma
Did not compete.
Calvin
Calvin competed at the Hope Fall Invitational last weekend. Sep 17, 2018 . Junior Cobe Benzel reached the West Division finals in the B' singles draw. Freshman Brandon Johnson reached the finals of the Men's C' flight before falling in the championship final.
Hope
Senior Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) posted a 3-1 record in the B singles flight at the Hope College Invitational on Friday and Saturday. He also teamed with junior Danny Kroeze of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) for a 3-1 record in the A doubles flight.
Kalamazoo
The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team competed at the Hope Invitational Friday and Saturday. Alex Cadigan and Henry Fuchs won the "B" Doubles draw. After winning their first two matches the duo defeated Muniz/Zemer (Grand Valley) 9-8(5) in the finals. Tytus Metzler and Ian Yi advanced to the semifinals of the "A" Doubles draw where they were defeated by Geissler/Urban (Grand Valley) 8-4. Yi and Metzler both advanced to the semifinals of the "A" Singles draw. Yi lost 1-6, 7-5, 10-5 to Lescoulie (Grand Valley) while Metzler lost 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 to Geissler (Grand Valley).
Olivet
The Olivet College men's tennis team started its 2018-19 season with a 9-0 loss to Indiana University-South Bend Sunday at Lepeer Park in South Bend, Indiana.
Trine
Trine split during the past week, picking up a win against Manchester before falling to Bethel (Ind.). Austin Balos (Niles, Mich. / Brandywine) was the lone member of the team to finish the week undefeated.
