The Hope College men's tennis team secured an outright second-place finish in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 9-0 win against Olivet Wednesday at Vandepoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts.
The Flying Dutchmen completed regular-season action at 6-1 in MIAA play and 7-11 overall.
At No. 1 singles, freshman Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) defeated Ben Morris 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 2 singles, freshman Justin Folkert of Hamilton, Michigan (Hamilton HS) won 6-2, 6-0 against Jacob Richards.
At No. 3 singles, junior Sam Kreps of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) beat Zak Gray 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles, sophomore Grant Wunderlich of Portage, Michigan (Portage Northern HS) downed Talen Scallhorn 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 5 singles, sophomore Nate Weeldreyer of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East HS) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win against Michael Tran.
Hope won at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles via forfeit.
At No. 1 doubles, freshmen Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) and Andrew Klein of Augusta, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian HS) topped Morris and Gray 8-1.
At No. 2 doubles, freshman Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) and senior Jon Hoffman of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) earned an 8-0 win against Richards and Scallhorn.
Hope returns to action on Thursday, May 5 at home in the MIAA Tournament semifinals.
The second-seeded Flying Dutchmen will face third-seeded Adrian at a time to be announced. The winner advances to the Friday, May 6 championship match at a site to be determined.
