2015 All-MIAA Team Announced; Hornets' Metzler Repeats as Most Valuable Player

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced its 2015 All-MIAA men’s tennis team.

Kalamazoo sophomore Branden Metzler, who has not lost a single conference match at either singles or doubles in his first two seasons with Hornets, was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year. Metzler won all six of his MIAA matches at No. 1 singles this season in straight sets and has an overall record of 14-5.

Kalamazoo senior David DeSimone and Hope senior Cody Herbruck were named recipients of the Allen B. Stowe Memorial Award for demonstrating the characteristics of leadership, contribution to the team and sportsmanship. Hope senior Colin McKey received the Lawrence Green Scholar-Athlete Award.

Player of the Week

Kalamazoo's Elan Dantus, a freshman from Okemos (Okemos HS), won all three of his matches last week during the MIAA tournament. In the Hornets’ championship match win over Adrian, he won his match at No. 6 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, and his match at No. 2 doubles, 8-0. He also won his doubles match in the semifinals against Alma, 8-2. Dantus is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
