Around the MIAA

Adrian (3-5-0, 0-0-0)

The Adrian College men’s soccer team had one match last week, losing at home to Ohio Northern by a score of 2-0. The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Kalamazoo to open conference play.

Albion (5-2-2, 0-0-0)

Albion was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches regional poll for the third consecutive week. With the 2-1 result over Carthage last Tuesday, Albion expects to remain ranked for another week...Albion's non-league schedule included four ranked opponents. Albion played Wheaton College (ranked sixth in the Central Region) to a 2-2 draw on Sept. 4. The Britons played Willamette University (ranked fourth in the West Region) to a scoreless draw on Sept. 7. North Park University (ranked third in the Central Region) defeated Albion, 3-1, Sept. 19.

Alma (3-5-0, 0-0-0)

The Alma College men's soccer team went 0-2 last week, falling 1-0 to Cleary and 4-1 to Wisconsin-Whitewater in the team's final non-conference games of the year. Kyle Framer (Greenville, Mich./Greenville) scored for the Scots against Cleary and Andrew Reid (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) made 10 combined saves.

No. 4/3 Calvin (8-1-0, 0-0-0)

Calvin picked up a 2-0 non-conference win at Kalamazoo for its only action of the week. Senior Jacob Witte scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season to stake the Knights to a 1-0 lead. Freshman Mason Smith added a clinching goal in the closing minutes. Last week, Calvin remained ranked fifth in the Division III United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. In addition, Calvin is ranked fourth in the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll.

No. 16/14 Hope (9-0-0, 0-0-0)

Ranked 21st last week, the Hope College men's soccer team returned from a weekend East Coast swing with two victories over Marymount College (Virginia), 6-0, and Wesley College (Delaware), 3-1. Now at the conclusion of their non-league schedule, the Flying Dutchmen head into MIAA play undefeated at 9-0. Senior Christian Dault scored in each match.

Kalamazoo (3-6-0, 0-0-0)

The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team dropped a hard fought, non-conference match against No. 5 Calvin last Wednesday by a score of 2-0. The Hornets had a number of chances with seven shots and three of those being on goal, but were unable to convert. Goalie Luke Kastran made six saves for Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo returns to MacKenzie Field on Wednesday, Oct. 3 for a conference match with Adrian. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Olivet (4-4-1, 0-0-0)

Did not compete. Opens MIAA play Wednesday when it hosts Alma College at 4 p.m.

Trine (7-1-1, 0-0-0)

No report submitted
