Around the MIAA

Adrian (1-2, 0-0)

The Adrian College men's soccer team was swept in the Kiwanis Classic, hosted by Wilmington College this weekend. The Bulldogs lost to Denison on Friday, 2-0, and then fell to No. 20-ranked Kenyon 4-0 on Saturday.


Albion (2-1-2, 0-0)

First-year midfielder Alex Spratte (Canton, Mich.) scored both Albion goals in the 2-2 draw with Wheaton last Tuesday...GK Maximilian Loria has three shutouts (in five matches) so far this season.


Alma (2-2, 0-0)

The men's soccer team went 1-1 for the second straight week, falling 2-0 to Centre and defeating Spalding 2-1. Noah Canlas (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) and Tanner Parrett (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores) each scored for the Scots, while junior goalkeeper Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) made a season-high seven saves. Canlas, Parrett and senior fullback Justin Johnson (Midland, Mich. / Midland) were named to the All-Tournament team as the Scots finished with the second-best record of the four involved teams.


No. 5 Calvin (4-0, 0-0)

Calvin went 2-0 at the Ohio Northern Invitational last weekend, defeating Millikin 5-0 and Ohio Northern 9-2. Calvin has outscored the opposition 27-2 this year and is currently ranked second nationally in goals and points. In the win over Millikin, five different Knights scored. Against Ohio Northern, Jacob Witte and Hunter Olson both had two goals and one assist. Ian Adams had a goal and three assists.


Hope (4-0, 0-0)

The Hope College men's soccer team defeated Ohio Northern 1-0 and Millikin (Illinois) 3-0 last weekend in Ada, Ohio, and raised their record to 4-0 overall. Junior Logan Bylsma of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) scored the winning goal against Ohio Northern with seven minutes remaining regulation. Senior James Reymann scored twice against Millikin.


Kalamazoo (1-3, 0-0)

The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team collected a 1-1 record last week. The Hornets dropped their first game of the week at North Park (2-0) before returning home to defeat Defiance (2-1) in their first home match of the season. Freshman Hayden Strobel led the offensive attack for the Hornets by collecting his first goal and assist of his young career. Junior Jacob Lopez Pink picked up the other goal for Kalamazoo.


Olivet (1-4, 0-0)

The Olivet College men's soccer team posted a 1-2 record last week. In the Comets' lone win, 5-2 over Bluffton (Ohio) University, senior Alistair Law broke the school single-game record with five goals and 10 points.


Trine (3-1, 0-0)

The Trine University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of Wabash College in a 1-0 decision in Crawfordsville, Ind. After the loss, the Thunder rebounded with a 3-0 win against Franklin College in a neutral site matchup in Crawfordsville, Ind.
