Calvin's Vegter, Witte Garner Academic Accolades from United Soccer Coaches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two Calvin men's soccer players represented the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region teams, the national coaching organization announced Dec. 10. 

Calvin's Trent Vegter (Sr., D, Hudsonville, Mich.) and Jacob Witte (Sr., M, Grand Rapids, Mich.) garnered regional honors after aiding the Knights to a 22-2-0 season that culminated with NCAA Division III National Runner-Up finish. Vegter gathered First-Team Scholar All-Region accolades, while Witte was named to the Second Team.

Vetger, the MIAA Most Valuable Player and United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America for the third consecutive season, was a key factor in Calvin posting a 0.59 goals-against average through 24 games in 2018. Academically, Vegter owns a 3.46 grade-point average in civil engineering.

Witte had a team-best five game-winning goals this fall, finishing the year with 17 goals and eight assists to aid the Knights in recording a 22-2-0 record. In the classroom, Witte owns a 3.86 grade-point average in speech pathology.
