The Calvin College men's soccer team tallied a pair of first-half goals and then held off a late charge by Adrian College to defeat the Bulldogs, 2-1, in the MIAA Men's Soccer Tournament Championship game Saturday afternoon at Calvin's Zuidema Field.

With the win, Calvin improved to 17-1-0 on the year and captured the MIAA's automatic berth into the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

Calvin senior Bobby McCaw tallied the game's opening score in the 16th minute, with the Knights adding a second tally in the 40th minute thanks to Lucas Albrecht's unassisted effort.

Adrian (8-8-1) did not relent, and the Bulldogs shook the nets in the 61st minute when Justin Tobin scored to cut the deficit in half. The Bulldogs continued to fend off Calvin defensively while earning opportunities, but the Knights prevailed at the final whistle. Calvin finished with a 19-9 shots advantage and a 9-3 ledger on corner kicks.

The 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship field will be announced Monday, Nov. 5 on ncaa.com.
