Week #1 wrap-up from Sept. 1-4
• Adrian won their 2017 season opener at home, shutting out Augustana (Ill.) Sept. 3, 2-0. The Bulldogs' defense allowed just four shots in the contest, while Brandon Katona (Jr., M, Detroit, Mich.) scoring the game-winner in the 31st minute.
• Albion went on the road for two results, winning in overtime at Hiram Sept. 1, 2-1, and adding a 1-1 draw against Westminster Sept. 2. Kay Whitmore (Fr., F, Grand Blanc, Mich.) scored the overtime game-winner against Hiram before notching the game-tying goal in the 82nd minute versus Westminster.
• Calvin went 2-0-0 in a pair of home contests to start the 2017 campaign. The Knights outlasted Ohio Wesleyan in double overtime Sept. 1, 2-1, and then added a 3-0 victory over Lake Forest Sept. 2. Bobby McCaw (Jr., M, Dubuque, Iowa) led the offense with two goals and an assist on the weekend, including the overtime game-winner against Ohio Wesleyan.
• Kalamazoo rallied for a 2-1 home win over Millikin Sept. 2 for their season opener. After allowing a goal late in the first half, the Hornets responded in the second half with two goals from Ryan Melgar (Fr., M, Portage, Mich.) to secure the win.
• Olivet earned their first non-conference win since 2015 with their 2-0 victory over Augustana Sept. 2. David Magallon (Jr., M, Paw Paw, Mich.) scored what proved to be the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute and added an assist on a second-half insurance goal.
• Trine was victorious in two outings to start the 2017 campaign, defeating Muskingum Sept. 2, 3-1, and adding a 4-0 victory against Berea Sept. 3. Tristen Ortiz (Fr., F, Wayland, Mich.) and Mason Pelphrey (Sr., M, Portsmouth, Ohio) each had game-winners on the week.
