Calvin Men's Soccer Halted by Chicago in NCAA Regional Semifinals

The Calvin College men's soccer team (21-1-1) suffered their first - and only - loss of the 2017 season with a 2-0 setback to the University of Chicago in the Regional Semifinal round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

The Maroons (19-2-0) sprinted out to a 2-0 lead in the game's fourth minute with two strikes in the first 3:31 of play. The contest was then paused for a thunderstorm, delaying the game in the eighth minute for a stoppage of one hour and 38 minutes.

The Knights pressed in an effort to tally a pair of goals to equalize, but were held in check not only by the Chicago defense, but the crossbar; Matt Hinds' header in the 72nd minute was thwarted by the goal structure to keep Calvin off the board.

Senior goalkeeper Nate Van Ryn finished with six saves.
